With the breakout of Covid-19, educational institutions worldwide have been hosting online classes to attend classes from home online. With the increase of online courses, several apps and websites were developed to make it easy to participate in classes. One of the most useful of these is the Google Classroom. If used correctly, google classroom can be an essential tool for the teacher and the student to share
Logging in and Homepage
To start, log in to Google classroom using your google account. If you are on a smartphone, you can download the Google Classroom app, and if you’re on pc/mac, you can access the website to log in through your browser. After logging in, you’ll be given an option to choose whether you’re a student or a teacher. If you are already added to classrooms by your teacher, you will see different boxes with titles. Click anyone to open that Classroom. If you aren’t already joined, then it shows blank.
Joining a classroom
After choosing your role as a student, you’ll find a ‘+’ icon on the top right of the page. Click it and put the class code provided by your teacher to join the class. The teacher can also add you via your email address; in that case, you won’t need any code to enter. After that, you are good to go.
The Stream
A stream option is available in google classroom, which allows students to view announcements or discuss a topic. Students can also add a post to the stream if the teacher allows it. To add a post to the stream, click the ‘+’ icon on the bottom right corner of the screen and choose ‘create post.’ You can post files from your google drive. You can also post directly from your computer; in that case, the file will automatically be uploaded to google drive at first. Apart from that, you can upload YouTube videos and other web links. A student’s post will be visible to every other student and the teacher.
Assignments
Assignments are posted by the teacher and will appear on the stream. The students can access the position to see the assignment title and details, completion status, and due date. There is also a submit button where students can submit their assignments and turn them in. Once the due date is over, the work is marked as ‘Late,’ but it can be submitted even after that. If a student submits a wrong file in the assignment, they will be able to unsubmit it and then resubmit. The teacher can add comments on the terms. Students can only access their jobs. The completed and missing assignments are also listed separately.
Storage
The submitted files are stored inside Google Drive inside a folder named Classroom, which gets created automatically for the user’s convenience. Inside the Classroom folder, there are separate folders for separate classrooms, which are also formed automatically.
Conclusion
The switch from physical classes to online classes was not easy. Google classroom plays a vital role in making it easier for the teachers and students to work efficiently. It provides an easy way for teachers and students to interact. Its features make it convenient for students to stay updated about their courses. It allows the teacher to check in on their student’s progress in their studies.
