DURGAMATI tells the story of an imprisoned IAS officer, Ishwar Prasad, who becomes a victim of political corruption. He is charged with a crime, and a corrupt minister threatens to quit politics if the priceless idols are not returned in fifteen days. Ishwar’s promise proves unfulfilled, and the ruling party decides to frame him in a corruption case. In response, CBI officer Satakshi Ganguly gets assigned the case and takes help from Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhay Singh.
Durgamati Movie Plot
The movie opens with lawmaker Ishwar Prasad threatening to quit if the government doesn’t find idols that have been stolen over a six-month period. This irks his political adversaries, who work with CBI Joint Director Satakshi Ganguly and Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhay Singh to devise a scheme to undermine his credibility. The two have a plan to question IAS Chanchal Chauhan, an Ishwar confidante who is currently serving time for the death of Abhay’s brother Shakti. They move her to Durgamati Bungalow, a run-down, purportedly haunted bungalow on the outskirts of a city, for the interrogation in order to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Chanchal is questioned by the CBI to learn more information about Ishwar, but she leads them on by reiterating that he is a fine man and casting doubt on his integrity without providing any evidence.
Later that evening, Chanchal comes under the hands of Durgamati, the house’s previous monarch before independence. When the CBI team asks a psychiatrist to look into the case, the expert comes to the conclusion that Chanchal must be suffering from schizophrenia because she frequently assumes multiple personae and recounts stories from books as if they were her own. He recommends the CBI place her in an asylum. Abhay, who believes that she might be using this as a ruse to flee, arranges for a spiritual teacher to investigate the possibility of paranormal activity. A few indicators are suggested by the guru. Later, Abhay learns that those signs point to the bungalow’s presence of ghosts. Under the influence of the ghost, he also witnesses Chanchal inflicting harm on herself. As a result, Abhay drives Chanchal to a mental health facility.

Despite its shaky start, Durgamati doesn’t take much of a wrong turn. It opens with a blatant attempt to make a political point, and then moves on to more familiar territory. While it lays out the nexus between corporates and politicians and uses the typical love angle, it lacks a convincing love story and relying on the same tired horror tricks. “Sadak 2 Movie Review“
The film is set in a small town in southern India, where two families are separated by religious persecution. Two sisters, Bhumi Pednekar and Anushka Shetty, play an innocent government officer who becomes the victim of a conspiracy. The movie is being released on Amazon Prime Video next month and will be available on the streaming service in India. This movie is directed by Ashok and features Bhumi Pednekar. It is the actress’ first venture into the horror genre.
The sequel to Bhaagamathie, starring Anushka Shetty and Anishka Shetty, has been slated to be released on Amazon Prime Video on December 11, 2020. Critics have praised Shetty’s performance, and the film has done extremely well at the box office. It has been so successful in the United States that it was followed by a Hindi remake, Durgamati. There are several positive reviews for the movie in both Telugu and Hindi, but a few critics are not a fan of the film.
Despite the fact that the original film has an interesting premise, the story is disappointingly dull and uninspired. The cast and crew are largely uninteresting, and the script consists of a sloppy narrative that isn’t compelling. The ending is a little too predictable, and I’d recommend watching it if you enjoy South Indian cinema. It’s worth a watch. If you’re into horror films, it might be a good way to spend some time with this film.
Bhumi Pednekar is known for her headstrong roles and will play the lead role in Durgamati. Previously, she and Akshay Kumar collaborated on the movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017). Bhumi Pednekar has appeared in a variety of roles in other films, including the critically-acclaimed Toilet: A Love Story, which was released in December 2017.
The film also has a quasi-religious angle involving ancient idols. One character says the government’s lethargy on the issue is an attack on Hindutva. Another interesting element is that it features corrupt politicians plotting against each other. Nevertheless, the movie still has a few flaws. While the movie may have been a huge success in its time, there are some things that have to be changed in the remake for it to be successful.
